Shou Sumiyaki - Melbourne

4 tomatoes - lovely!

Not sure how to describe this place... Amazing doesn't quite cut it! My first Japanese barbecue experience consisted of organic cucumbers with miso sauce (spicy! yum!), superior use of chopsticks, thin slices of wagyu beef that we cooked ourselves on the charcoal grill built in to the table, mushrooms, vegetable dumplings, an array of Japanese sauces, delicious traditional soda and the most chocolately chocolate ball you have ever tasted! We shared the table with another couple that recommended certain dishes to me (being a Sumiyaki noob) and I quite enjoyed their company. It was a little odd at first, but so was the habit of the wait staff walking over seats to get to their end of the table to serve them.

Anyway, the restroom! Lovely as I said. Black walls, textured with 1cm-square tiles and something else that looked similar that I can't describe but looked very swish. I liked it so much I had to touch the wall! It was like it was etched into the wall. The mirror - classy! Large with etched glass trees decorating the edges. Very modern toilet. A vase with jonquils sitting on a dark wood cabinet made my visit complete. I wanted to stay in there longer but my friend would think that I'm weird or something and besides, we were last in the restaurant at 10:30 on a Thursday night.

I would definitely go back - for the toilets and for the food! YUM!
